Spray tanning is a hot trend. Despite being a popular activity, spray tanning also comes with challenges – especially for removing it. Whether you have an uneven tan or need to get rid of your spray tan for a special event, there are various simple spray tan removal techniques you can use. Read on to find out how to remove spray tan.
1. Use exfoliating gloves.
Soak in a warm-hot, soapy bath for about 15-20 minutes. Then, scrub in circular motions on spray tanned areas with the exfoliating gloves. Avoid being too rough on your skin when using these gloves; this can cause unnecessary irritation.
If the spray tan doesn’t come off right away, you may need to soak longer to make it easier to remove. You can also use an exfoliating body wash together with the gloves to double the exfoliating action and increase your chances of removing the spray tan.
2. Remove spray tan with lemon-sugar body scrub.
You can make your own lemon-sugar body scrub by mixing 1 cup of white granulated, light brown, or raw sugar with ½ – ¾ cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Soak in a warm-hot bath for 15-20 minutes, and use the scrub on areas you want to remove spray tan. You should scrub for 3-5 minutes in the same area, but don’t do this too roughly. After scrubbing, wash away the scrub with warm water.
Here’s another variation of the lemon scrub: Mix ½ cup of baking soda and ½ cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice until a thick, smooth paste forms. Apply the scrub to your skin while using circular motions. Let the mixture sit on your skin for 2-3 minutes. Use a wash cloth dampened with warm water to remove the mixture from your skin.
With either lemon scrubs, you may have to repeat the process in the same area 2-3 more times to completely remove the spray tan. You can also use exfoliating gloves with one of these lemon scrubs to go deeper and have a better chance of scrubbing off the spray tan.
3. Wipe off spray tan with hair removal cream.
This is a quick way to remove spray tan. All you need to do is apply some hair removal cream on the desired area, and use a damp wash cloth to wipe off the cream.
4. Rub away spray tan with hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide can do more than whiten your teeth or disinfect minor wounds. This great solution can help remove spray tan as well. You can use cotton balls or a small wash cloth to rub the solution onto your skin. Leave the solution on your skin for 3-5 minutes, and wipe it off with a damp wash cloth.
Another alternative is to use a small amount of rubbing alcohol on cotton balls to remove spray tan. But be careful when using this solution. Rubbing alcohol can dry your skin. Make sure to moisturize after you’ve used this solution. Also, wear a face mask, if you have one, to keep the strong smell from affecting you.
5. Use a baby oil and baking soda mixture.
Mix baking soda and baby oil together until they form a smooth, thick paste. During a warm bath, apply this mixture onto spray tanned places on your skin. Use circular motions to rub in the solution. Let it stay on your skin for 2-3 minutes. Wipe it off with a damp wash cloth. You can also use this mixture with exfoliating gloves and scrub away the spray tan.
6. Bathe in bath oil.
Pour in a small amount of bath oil into a tub of warm-hot water. Soak in the bath for about 15 minutes. Then, use exfoliating gloves and scrub your skin in circular motions to help the spray tan fade. Bath oil helps soften the spray tan and loosen it from your skin, which makes it easier to remove.
7. Swim off your spray tan.
If you have access to a pool, take a 15-30 minute swim. The chlorine in the pool helps get the spray tan off your skin. When you take a shower or bath after your swim, make sure to scrub your skin in circular motions with exfoliating gloves. This will help remove the spray tan even more.
8. Any body scrubs can help you remove spray tan.
Since body scrubs are meant to exfoliate your skin and dig deeper to remove dirt, etc., they can help you erase spray tan from your skin. Body scrubs with citrus elements are better since they’re more effective in spray tan removal.
9. Steam away spray tan.
Going to the sauna is a great way to remove spray tan. The hot steam in saunas open pores, which helps you easily clear away the spray tan. Stay in the sauna for 15-30 minutes. Once you get out of the sauna, wipe your body with a damp towel right away. You can also take a hot shower and let the steam from the hot water open your pores. While you’re in the shower, use a wash cloth or exfoliating gloves to wipe or scrub away the spray tan.
10. Remove excess spray tan with baby wipes.
This method works best right after a spray tan session. If you notice any uneven tones on your body, use baby wipes to gently wipe away excess spray tan.
Most of these remedies may need to be done multiple times before you can completely remove spray tan from you body; it depends on the amount of spray tan you have on your skin and how long you’ve had it. You can use them for any type of spray tan problem you have, such as spray tan streaks. But remember – patience and persistence are required when you want to remove spray tan.
If you’re in an emergency situation where you can’t afford to have spray tan, you can use a combination of concealers to hide the spray tan. If you must, you can also use commercial spray tan removers to help get the spray tan off your skin.
